HSN Codes i.e. “Harmonized System of Nomenclature” This system was developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO). Which was implemented in 1988. Through this system, systematic classification of objects is done all over the world. Structure of the HSN Code In India
HSN codes include 21 sections, and 99 chapters, with around 1,244 headings, and 5224 sub-headings. Decoded as 6-digit HSN
- The first two digits indicate the chapter number
- Title to tell about up to the next two digits
- The last two digits are the item code.
The sections are arranged from a more broad point of view. Parts, then, have a much clearer classification.
